A Clear Path From First Draft to Finished Book

Editing should never feel opaque. You'll know what is happening at each stage, why it's happening, and what comes next.

   Initial Conversation

   You share information about the manuscript — its subject, genre, length, current stage, and what you hope the book will do for readers. This is also where we discuss the kind of editorial help you're looking for and whether it's the right moment for it.

2. 02

   Manuscript Assessment

   The manuscript, or a representative portion of it, is reviewed to determine the appropriate level of editorial support. The aim is to recommend the stage that will genuinely help, rather than the largest possible scope of work.

   Editorial Plan

   You receive a clear written understanding of the recommended approach, what is and isn't included, the working timeline, and the investment involved. Nothing begins until the plan is agreed.

   Editorial Work

   Mathew works carefully through the manuscript, holding two things in mind at once: what you set out to achieve, and how a reader will actually experience the book. Substantive suggestions come with reasoning, not just marks.

   Final Review

   The completed work is returned with clear communication about the editorial changes, the patterns worth attending to, and any remaining considerations before the manuscript moves to its next stage.
